south austin engagement session // mercedes + forrest

I was pretty excited to meet up with Mercedes and Forrest to take some “Austiny” photos around the city! They were so fun to photograph!! We started out at the “Greetings from Austin” mural on Annie Street, then traveled over to Butler park and the State Capitol building. Then we enjoyed some breakfast for dinner at Magnolia Cafe. Needless to say, you can definitely tell these two are in love!

I LOVED Mercedes’ dress. So bright and pretty!!

They are too stinkin’ cute.

One of my favorites!

Another favorite!!

Loved the way this photo turned out with the Austin Skyline!

How did you meet?
F: We met through Chi Alpha Christian fellowship, a campus ministry at
our university. We were friends for almost a year, with on an off and
on crushes each other. I can remember coming home for Christmas break
that first year and telling all my friends about this awesome girl I
had met who liked my beard and had the same birthday as me, and a few
months after that we started talking and getting to know each other,
and then started dating in May.
M: Forrest and I were a part of Chi Alpha Christian fellowship and we
would see each other at Chi Alpha events and chit chat. Almost a year
went by and our two best friends starting dating each other; we would
tag along as double dates, then we dated for a year and he put a ring on it!

When was your first date? Where did you go? Did you hit it off right away?

F: Our first date happened on the day that I told Mercedes how I felt
about her. I took her to Agua Java, her favorite coffee shop in
Corpus, and when we got our drinks I said “Mercedes, I think you’re an
incredibly beautiful woman, inside and out, and I think we should
date, but if you want to spend more time getting to know each other
first, then that’s fine.” After she said yes, we walked around
downtown and the waterfront holding hands and then went to dinner at
Bull Chicks, a local burger place. That was on May 18, 2011.

M: We went to my favorite coffee shop downtown, they had a drink called
the Latte Lomaximo; my favorite drink. Forrest sat me down and told me
he wanted to be together with me and then we went walking around Corpus.

What is one of your favorite memories together?
F: A couple of days before I asked her out I was helping  Mercedes move
into her new apartment and her roommate left with the only key to go
pick up more stuff. We couldn’t leave the apartment because we didn’t
have a key to lock it, and for the next four hours she and I just hung
out and talked about anything and everything, that’s the night when I
really fell in love with her.
M: Dancing to the Stand by Me by Ben E. King and our wedding song, Let it
fall, by Jason Morant, in my living room:-)

What are some things y’all like to do together?
M & F: We LOVE the show Modern Family, we also like to see movies, take walks
together, especially along the bay front in downtown  Corpus, and
drinking coffee. We like to serve the community and our church, and we
love being in ministry together.

How did he propose?
F: I saved up to buy her ring starting a couple of months after we
started dating. In April, 2011, I called her mom and told her I was
getting ready to go buy the engagement ring, and asked for her
blessing, which she gave me. Then the two of us started scheming…we
decided to get both of our families together the day before mothers
day for a “mothers day” party. I could barely sleep the week leading
up to it, I was so nervous! The day came and we met her family for the
party; when my family walked in her mom called everyones attention to
where the two of us were standing and I got down on one knee after
completely forgetting the speech I had planned (I was REALLY nervous)
and pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me.

What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
F: The wedding night! 😉 And of course I can’t wait to see my beautiful
bride in her wedding dress coming down the aisle towards me:)

M: Me walking down the aisle with my mom and dad, seeing my
nieces, sister, nephew and Forrest waiting for me at the end of the
aisle, and his sister singing JJ Heller “When I’m With You”
